The exact course schedule as well as meeting day and time will be worked out individually dependent on the student’s other electives at DIS.

The Royal Danish Academy of Music (RDAM) is specialized in the training of classical musicians and has educated music students for professional careers since 1867. The Academy has a strong international profile collaborating with leading music schools in Europe, Asia and North America and an experienced faculty with professional music careers of their own.

RDAM is part of the Scandinavian and European music tradition and is housed in historic surroundings with beautiful and acoustically outstanding concert halls, class and rehearsal rooms.

Course Description

This course offers individual training in principal instrument at The Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen. Depending on subject and level, you may also have the opportunity to participate in different related activities such as concerts, master classes, and joint sessions.

Course Objectives

  • Develop techniques and general musicianship
  • Develop performance skills  

Course Format

Depending on instrument and level of expertise, the course format may vary and will be coordinated and worked out individually with DIS and the Academy. Students are expected to participate in concerts and performances to the extent offered and possible.

Course Requirements and Grading

At the end of the semester you will receive a Danish grade by Royal Danish Academy of Music that is reported to the DIS Office of Academic Support and translated to the American equivalent:

12   Exceptional performance and/or improvement in the course of the semester (A)

10   Superior performance and/or improvement in the course of the semester (A-)

7     Good performance and/or improvement in the course of the semester (B)

4     Acceptable performance and/or improvement in the course of the semester (C)

2     Minimally acceptable performance and/or improvement in the course of the semester (C-)

Anything lower than a score of 2 will not be considered to have reached passing standard.

Students will be graded in their own right and not against the performance or abilities of others, as they are likely to be beginning at different levels of competency.
